Things to Do in Burlington Ontario

Nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario and ideally located within an hour of Toronto & Niagara Falls, the beautiful city of Burlington awaits you. Discover the Royal Botanical Gardens, with it's outdoor garden and blooms in season. Hike on our nature trails, and take in the spring birds and buds along the Niagara Escarpment. Experience our history within the Museums of Burlington, and take a tour of the many galleries at the Burlington Art Centre. Of course remember to head down to check out the lovely waterfront and it's over 150 wild bird species found in the vicinity.

The wonderful thing about Burlington, it doesn't matter what time of year it is, there's always something to see and do. Just this last weekend, and each and every fathers day, the summer's 32nd Annual Sound of Music Festival offers an invigorating mix of acclaimed Canadian musicians, singers and emerging talent with crowd-pleasing outdoor locations that include bistro patios and waterfront stages. Delight in numerous other festivals, water sports, golf and plenty of various other outdoor activities at our over 115 parks and 325 hectare of parkland throughout the town.

The winter season is undoubtedly an exhilarating time of the year with a little something for just about everybody. Take your family out for a day of downhill skiing and snowboarding on the twelve ski slopes at Glen Eden Ski Centre. Hike, trek or stroll the Bruce Trail, Canada's eldest footpath with over 1200 km of nature to be investigated. Or lace up the old skates and head over to either an indoor or outdoor skating rink and see if you can still fall gracefully. Celebrate the season during the winter carnival or sip hot chocolate as you stroll through the Festival of Lights in Spencer Smith Park.

Burlington is also a pedestrian and bike friendly city. You will find several long-distance walking and biking trails, such as the Waterfront Trail, a 23-kilometer-long paved path that provides stunning views of Burlington's waterfront. In Burlington, you'll be able to operate your bike on sidewalks, except inside the down-town core. Burlington Transit is the transit authority for the city. Bus service is fairly reasonable for a town of Burlington's size. Most of the lines run on a 30-minute schedule, although some routes run more often during rush hour and/or less often on weekends or evenings.

Art, culture, and heritage displays are showcased throughout our year-round galleries and museums safe guarding Burlington's long history. Walk the downtown historical streets and discover the first homes built in Burlington dating as far back as the late 1800's. Natural outdoors-men eagerly challenge themselves on the Bruce Trail by climbing an escarpment wall or cycling scenic rural or city routes. For that more leisurely pace, why not window shop throughout Burlington's stylish boutiques or simply get pampered at a day spa. Explore, discover and savor amazing Burlington.
